Although it has
been many months since his tragic passing, Largo is still
very much missed and always in our hearts. There was nobody
who
knew him, horse person or not, that did not attach themselves to him
immediately. He was just one of those rare horses that is more
than a
horse. Largo possessed not only talent and beauty, but he was
also
funny, friendly, and exasperating all at the same time. He
taught us all
the true meaning of a partnership, he insisted on trust, loyalty,
courage,
patience, and kindness when handling him and he gave the same in
return. There will be other talented and special horses that
will come
into our lives but there will always be only one Largo. He
loved life and
he fought until the very end. Although he left us much too
early, we will
never forget his great spirit. He will live on through all the
great lessons
he taught me as a trainer and horseman and all the horses I ever
come
into contact with will have him to thank. I thank him too.
His tree now stands in his paddock overlooking the barn so he will
always be where he was happiest; outside keeping an eye over all his
animal and human friends and making sure all is as it should be.
Special thanks to Ruth and Colin Shaw, whose steadfast belief in
this
horse never wavered and their support of him (and me) throughout our
time together was truly amazing. Ruth saw Largo's special
light when
everyone else was shaking their heads at him. I can scarcely
imagine
where he would have ended up without her.
